How to Prepare Your Car for Your Summer Road Trip
Summer is finally here! Oh the places to go. However before you set off on any long excursions it is best to ensure that your car is up for the task. While there are many things you can do to ensure your car is going to get the best fuel efficiency possible there is more to trips than just saving gas. Safety should be a main concern, which means giving your car a little extra attention before setting off. Here are a few things you should consider having done before putting the pedal to the metal as you head off on the next great adventure.
Brake Service
Your brake system is key to providing you with a safe trip. If you have experienced any sort of braking trouble recently it is crucial that you have them checked out. It would be a shame to get out on the road only to have your brakes require service halfway through. We will be able to look at your brake system and let you know if you should be good to go or if they need to be serviced now. Common signs of braking trouble include grinding noises, a soft brake pedal, pulling or vibrating when braking or the illumination of the ABS light, which stands for anti-lock braking system.
Catch Up with Maintenance
By conducting routine maintenance before heading out you won't have to worry about making any unnecessary pitstops. Regular maintenance will help ensure that your car is getting the best fuel efficiency possible while also helping to prevent breakdowns that can result in a need for costly repairs. Routine maintenance includes oil changes, replacing the air filter and fuel filter, installing new spark plugs, checking the battery, inspecting and if necessary replacing belts and hoses as well as a plethora of other services.
Check your Tires
Your car's tires are what connect you to the road and they need to be in good condition and properly inflated for a safe and efficient road trip. Have us look over your tires to ensure they are not going to be giving you any trouble in the next few thousands miles. Also be sure to have them pumped up to the correct PSI as poorly inflated tires can cause a number of issues. Always a great idea to pick up a Tire Pressure Guage and leave in your glove box as well!
