Conscientious SUV Shopper Just Wants Something That Will Kill Family In Other Car In Case Of Accident

North Vancouver BC —Explaining that she did not have any strong preferences when it came to make or model, area woman Laura Bauer, a conscientious SUV shopper, confirmed Wednesday that she just wanted something that would kill the family in the other car if she got into an accident. “All I’m looking for is a sturdy, reliable vehicle that, in the event of a head-on collision, will completely obliterate both the parents and kids in the car we slam into,” said Bauer, who explained that features such as a sunroof or built-in navigation system were not as important to her as the assurance that came from sitting behind the wheel of a machine that could turn anything else on the road into a fiery, tangled mess of metal and flesh. “I don’t need anything fancy, just a practical, midsize SUV that gets good mileage and will easily slaughter a family of five during a 60-mph crash. The last thing I want is a flimsy sedan that takes out Mommy and Daddy in the front seat but leaves behind a couple of orphans in the back.

WHAT IS CAUSING THE SHORTAGE?

Experts say that supply chain issues affecting many industries are to blame for the car shortage in Canada.

“Chip shortages (and) supply chain disruptions caused car manufacturers to produce fewer cars in the last couple of years,” Baris Akyurek, the director of analytics at AutoTrader.ca, told CTV News.

The shortage of new vehicles is driving up the average price of used vehicles as well. According to the AutoTrader Price Index Report, a new car costs on average $53,000, up 17 per cent from a year ago, while a used one now costs $37,000 on average, up a staggering 38 per cent.

A new survey for Rates.ca in April shows that over 40 per cent of Canadians have changed their plans to purchase a vehicle due to the shortage of new ones and the rising prices of used vehicles.

Those looking to purchase electric cars will also likely face hurdles.
Halifax-based electric vehicle salesperson Jeremie Bernardin said he's noticed a recent explosion of interest in zero-emission vehicles, but that the wait times can be as long as three years, depending on the manufacturer and the dealership.

In March 2021, a report commissioned by Transport Canada found that more than half of Canadian dealerships had no electric vehicles in stock.

The report also found that wait times exceeded six months at 31 per cent of dealerships that had no zero-emission cars in their inventory.

I refuse to put on winter tires because:
• It’s my car, my choice, my freedom.
• The effectiveness of winter tires is not proven, except by studies carried out by the manufacturers (like I’m supposed to trust them).
• My neighbor Bob had an accident even after putting on winter tires.
• Some drivers are already on their 3rd set of tires, which proves their ineffectiveness.
• We do not know what the tires are made of.
• The tire manufacturers scare us with winter just to enrich themselves.
• In fact, I read on the internet that the tire giants invented snow and spread it at night when you sleep.
• If I have winter tires, the government can track me in the snow.
Educate yourself, open your eyes, stop being sheep!
This year, I say no to winter tires!
