Novice Driver Caught Going 181 km/h on TCH Near Soldier’s Pond; Licence Suspended and Vehicle Impounded by RCMP

RCMP Traffic Services East suspended a novice driver and impounded his vehicle after he was caught travelling more than 80 km/hr over the speed limit on the Trans-Canada Highway Thursday morning.

On March 5 around 11:30 a.m., an officer patrolling the Trans-Canada Highway near Soldier’s Pond observed a passenger vehicle travelling westbound at 181 km/hr in an 100km/hr zone. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was pulled over and police learned that he was operating with a novice licence earned only a few days before.

The driver’s licence was suspended roadside and the vehicle was seized by Traffic Services East and impounded. The driver was also issued a ticket for excessive speeding.

Speed can kill. Excessive speeding is a common contributor to motor vehicle collisions and roadway fatalities. The moment or two you might gain is not worth it, because the consequences can be far more serious than fines, demerit points and suspensions. You could cause serious, life-altering harm or death for yourself, your passengers and everyone else on the road. Plan ahead and slow down.
