KERPA’s New Emergency Response Vehicle Enters Service

The KERPA Board of Directors, physicians and volunteers are pleased to announce that our new Emergency Response Vehicle, ERV3, is now fully equipped, insured and operational, and has entered service responding to critical 911 calls in our community.

ERV3 replaces KERPA’s original Emergency Response Vehicle, ERV1, which has now been retired after responding to more than 1,000 emergency calls during its years of service with KERPA.

ERV1 played an important role in KERPA’s development and has carried our physicians and specialist medical equipment to hundreds of serious and life-threatening emergencies throughout the region. Its replacement represents another important step forward for our service.

Most importantly, ERV3 was purchased by our community, for our community.
KERPA extends its deepest thanks to everyone who donated toward the purchase and outfitting of the new vehicle. The generosity of individuals, organizations and community groups has made it possible for our physicians to continue bringing critical emergency medical care directly to ill and injured patients when every minute matters.

Special thanks are extended to the IODE Kokanee Branch; Matt Brind’Amour and everyone involved with Brindy’s 4-on-4 Hockey Tournament; Nelson Lions Club; the organizers, participants and supporters of the Pickleball Tournament for KERPA; and the private donors whose generosity and belief in KERPA helped make ERV3 possible.
Every donation, fundraiser and contribution toward this project has directly strengthened emergency medical response in our region.

ERV3 carries the specialist medical and rescue equipment required by KERPA physicians to respond alongside paramedics and other emergency services to the most serious 911 calls. The vehicle will allow our physicians to continue providing critical care at the scene of 911 emergencies and supporting patients during some of the most important minutes of their lives.

To everyone who helped put ERV3 on the road: thank you.
This is your Emergency Response Vehicle. It was funded by this community, it will serve this community, and because of your support, it is now ready to respond when someone needs us most.

Saving lives. Helping critically ill and injured patients. Supporting the emergency services.

Two of our physicians completed their Emergency Vehicle Operations Course this summer. EVOC is four days and forty hours: classroom theory, development exercises, driving evaluation, and a timed qualification at the end. Skid control, Braking under load and Emergency response driving. It is one of the highest qualifications we train our physicians to, and nobody responds in a KERPA vehicle without it or equivalent training. It is one of the most important things we do. Congratulations to Dr. Serena Deketele and Dr. Akela Szasz. Our sincere thanks to Jamie and the team at Alberta Defensive Tactics Training Inc. They normally train peace officers and police officers, and they have made room for us. THANK YOU !!
KERPA is a registered Canadian charity. Our emergency physicians volunteer their time, dispatched by BC Emergency Health Services to the region's most critical 911 calls. We work alongside paramedics, fire, police and search and rescue, funded entirely by this community. Patients are never charged. #

Hugs and huge thanks to Whitewater Ski Resort for hosting the 2nd Annual Alex's Whitewater Hike for KERPA in honour of Alex Zimich. ❤️⛰️

It was a beautiful day in the mountains as participants ran and hiked laps from the Hummingbird Lodge to the top of the Silver King Chair. Everyone enjoyed the DJ spinning great tunes, an amazing BBQ, and this year's silent auction featuring incredible stay-and-play packages from around Nelson and area.

We are deeply honoured by the dedication of the Zimich family, who work so hard alongside Whitewater Ski Resort to make this special event happen in Alex's memory. Your generosity, commitment, and community spirit continue to make a meaningful difference for KERPA.

You are all simply the very best. Thank you for your incredible support!
