After fixing his subframe, Fred wanted to take his Golf Country and camper setup out to the beach near Pacific City for some camping!

After driving through some beautiful forest mountain roads, he made it to the coast where you can legally drive on the beach. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it very far before getting stuck in some deep sand.

Luckily, some good people were around and were more than happy to lend a hand. With a trailer tow and a Country tow, Fred was back at the entrance where he spent the rest of the day enjoying the view and relaxing by the coast.

When driving back from Double J Motorwerks LLC., Fred noticed his steering wheel was sitting about 45° off center. Once he arrived at TT and got the car on the lift, he found the culprit: a cracked subframe!

With no replacement subframe on hand, Fred decided reposition the subframe as close to factory as possible and got to work plating the crack with some sheet metal lying around the TT shop. A massive thanks to collin for freeing up some space for Fred and lending him his tools to use!

The welds might not be the prettiest but they’ll do the job of getting Fred back home. There’s still a little more research to do on subframe interchangeability but Fred already has plans to swap a 1.4T into his Country, bringing this car one step closer to becoming the ultimate road trip car!

After the TT BBQ, Fred headed down to Double J Motorwerks LLC. in Portland, Oregon, after hitting it off with Joey at the BBQ.

The two quickly bonded over their shared hoarding tendencies collecting VW parts and relics for decades. While at the shop, Joey gave us a quick tour and showed us some of the incredible VW parts and memorabilia he’s collected over the years. If you spotted something you’re interested in or you’re hunting for a specific part, make sure to reach out to him. There’s a good chance he might have exactly what you’re looking for ready to ship!

With our 1.4T swap continuing to grow in popularity and more installation requests coming in, we’re starting to establish certified installation centers to help bring new life to your MK1 and Joey Marstall is now officially part of the list!

After bolting in the 135i seat using our custom seat brackets, it was finally time to hit the road and start pushing the car a little harder.

Overall, the car feels fantastic! It’s quick, responsive and everything is coming together nicely. That said, there are still a couple of issues we’re tracking down. The ABS warning light keeps making an appearance and we’re still trying to determine why the airbag light stays on.

We’ll keep refining the car over the coming weeks until everything is sorted. Even though this is a track focused build, Fred wants it to be just as enjoyable on the street and that means no Christmas tree lighting up the dashboard.

Sam is doing a killer job keeping our laser cutting machine in tip-top shape as we kick off production of our Adjustable Motion Ratio Brake Booster Delete Kit!

The machine is getting put to work with a solid production run for our assembly blocks. With most of the plates now cut, it’s time to move on to sandblasting and welding to bring the final product together!

If you’ve been eyeing our kit, be sure to reach out and get access to the presale. This is your chance to secure a kit and be among the first to receive one once they’re officially released! We’re also actively looking for testers and promoters for this release. If you have a platform where you’d like to showcase the product before its official release, send us a direct message!

After waking up at last night’s state park, Fred was greeted with an icy windshield! The location was so high up in the mountains that freezing temperatures occurred overnight.

The roads leading to the campsite are exactly why he decided to do this road trip in his Golf Country, utilizing what Volkswagen’s engineers designed years ago. In the Scirocco, he would’ve never made it in or out!

A couple of hours later, after arriving in downtown Spokane, the smoke from the recent forest fires was very apparent and left a strong smell in the air but the Country kept driving just fine all the way to the TT event. If you happen to capture a picture of the rig at the event or on the drive there, post it in the comments!

After some intense hill climbs in the MK2 Golf Country, Fred made it to a state park just outside Buffalo, Wyoming. The Country had a hard time keeping up through the hills and with a strong headwind adding to the challenge, it made for a pretty demanding day of driving.

Although his original campsite was already full, the state park ended up being a great alternative offering Fred an amazing view and some fun roads along the way!

Today, Fred is in Oregon at the TT BBQ enjoying some good food and catching up with old friends. Make sure to swing by, check out the event, and say hi!

During Fred’s drive up to the TT 2026 BBQ in his Golf Country, he ran into some overheating issues and had to run the heater on full blast to help keep the engine cool.

As suspected, once he pulled over, he found that the cooling fan wasn’t operating properly through the thermal switch. He decided to jerry rig the fan directly to the battery, bypassing the thermal switch. As soon as he plugged the fan in, he realized there was another problem, the fan was destroying itself! He headed off to Lane Automotive for a new electric fan setup. Later that day, the fuse blew due to suspected over amperage so that had to be sorted out before he could continue the drive.

After finally making it to the campsite, it was time to shower up, cook some food and get some rest before tomorrow’s drive. Fred will be at the TT BBQ this weekend, so make sure to swing by, say hi, and check out the Golf Country!
