The New Cummins Tows LESS? 2025 Ram 3500 Surprises Me

The new 2025 Ram 3500 brings some major changes to the Cummins-powered trucks. We've got a heavily revised 6.7L Cummins diesel, the long-awaited ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, and less aggressive 3.42 axle gears. On paper, it sounds like a recipe for better performance, better drivability, and improved efficiency.

But here's the interesting part: despite all of those upgrades, the maximum towing capacity of the 2025 Ram 3500 is actually about 500 pounds lower than the previous-generation high-output Cummins trucks.

Now, let's be clear—these trucks can still tow well north of 35,000 pounds, which is an incredible amount of weight and more than enough for the vast majority of owners. But it's still surprising to see a brand-new truck with a redesigned powertrain lose towing capacity instead of gaining it.

I'm not saying the new truck is worse. In fact, the ZF 8-speed and updated Cummins should make for a fantastic towing experience. I just found it interesting that all of these engineering updates didn't translate into a higher max tow rating.

What do you think? Would you trade a little maximum towing capacity for a more modern transmission and improved overall driving experience?

Why the Ram 2500 Power Wagon Still Wins Me Over

There’s something to be said for a truck that just does exactly what you want it to do every single day.

After years of ownership, my Ram 2500 Power Wagon continues to be the best truck I’ve ever owned. The 6.4L HEMI has been absolutely flawless, the ZF 8-speed transmission has been excellent, and the entire Power Wagon package just feels like it was built by truck enthusiasts who actually understand what owners want.

Factory winch, front and rear lockers, disconnecting sway bar, aggressive stance, solid off-road capability, and enough comfort to drive every day. It’s one of those rare trucks where I don’t find myself making a long list of modifications because it already comes with almost everything I want right from the factory.

Is it perfect? No truck is. But when I look at everything this truck offers as a complete package, I still think the Power Wagon is one of the most well-rounded pickups on the market.

What truck has been the best one you've ever owned? Let me know in the comments.

This Toyota Tundra Has 500,000 KM… And The Engine Is Still Original

While on a road trip, I stopped and chatted with a Toyota Tundra owner who was driving a 2019 Tundra equipped with the legendary 5.7L iForce V8.

What caught my attention? The truck had nearly 500,000 kilometers (roughly 300,000 miles) on the odometer... and the engine had never had a major issue.

No rebuild. No replacement. No catastrophic failures. Just years of driving and regular maintenance.

Stories like this are exactly why the 5.7L iForce V8 has earned such a strong reputation among truck owners. It may not be the most powerful engine on the market, and it certainly isn't the most fuel-efficient, but when it comes to durability and long-term reliability, it's hard not to respect what Toyota built with these second-generation Tundras.

Seeing trucks like this still working every day with half a million kilometers on the clock is a reminder that simple, naturally aspirated V8s can still go the distance.

How many kilometers are on your truck?

5 Years Later… This 6.4L HEMI Has Been PERFECT

After 5 years of ownership, I can honestly say this 6.4-liter HEMI in my RAM 2500 has been absolutely rock solid. No check engine lights, no oil burning, no fluid leaks, no major issues — just regular oil changes and this thing keeps showing up every single day ready to work.

And trust me… this truck has NOT lived an easy life. It’s spent hours towing heavy loads, hauled weights well beyond what most people would ever put behind a gas HD truck, and this engine just keeps pulling strong without complaint.

People love to argue gas vs diesel, but there’s something to be said about simple, reliable V8 power that just works. The 6.4 HEMI might not get diesel fuel economy, but when it comes to reliability and durability, this engine has seriously impressed me.

Honestly… this thing has earned my respect.

The 6.4L HEMI Is NOT Just a Bigger 5.7…

A lot of people think the 6.4-liter HEMI is just a larger version of the 5.7 HEMI… but that’s actually far from the truth. The 6.4 HEMI in the Ram 2500 HD trucks is a true heavy-duty gas engine, and it comes with some serious upgrades built specifically for towing, hauling, and long-term durability.

You’re getting a much thicker cast iron engine block, a forged crankshaft, sodium-filled exhaust valves, upgraded aluminum heads, heavy-duty valve seats, piston cooling jets, and a higher-flow oil cooler to help manage heat when this engine is working hard. On top of that, the engine is detuned for HD truck use, which helps keep temperatures lower and stress levels down — and lower operating temps generally mean a longer engine lifespan.

The 5.7 HEMI is still a solid engine, no doubt about it. But the 6.4 HEMI was built for heavy-duty work for a reason… and these upgrades are exactly why.

The 2026 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate Has EVERYTHING

The new 2026 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate with the 6.2L V8 is loaded… massaging seats, premium interior, massive wheels, loud exhaust, and just about every luxury feature you could ask for in a half-ton truck. GMC absolutely packed this thing with all the bells and whistles.

But then you look at the price tag… $116,000 Canadian. And that’s where things get interesting.

At that kind of money, you’re getting into serious HD truck territory — and even luxury SUV territory. No doubt this truck is impressive, comfortable, and powerful… but is it really worth six figures for a 1500 pickup truck?

Curious what you guys think. If you had the money, would you buy a fully loaded half-ton like this… or would you spend it somewhere else?

Ford Is Killing the 6.8L “Mini Godzilla”… Good or Bad Move?

Today we finally put the 6.8L “Mini Godzilla” in the Ford F-250 to work and honestly… I came away pretty impressed. This engine might not get all the attention of the legendary 7.3L Godzilla, but it’s still a tough, simple, old-school gas V8 built off the exact same foundation — and that’s something I really appreciate in 2026.

What surprised me most is how many of you actually wanted to see this engine tow and work in the real world. So that’s exactly what we did. And after spending time behind the wheel, I honestly think the 6.8L is a solid HD gas engine. Simple design, strong low-end torque, proven platform, and none of the diesel emissions headaches that push so many people back toward gas trucks.

Now Ford is reportedly canceling the 6.8L, which is honestly a little disappointing. But thankfully, the 7.3L Godzilla still lives on — and if you know me, you know how much I appreciate that engine.

So what do you think… should Ford keep the 6.8L around?

Fake Engine Noise In The New Toyota Tundra… Why Though? 🤨

The new third-gen Toyota Tundra with the 3.4L i-Force Max twin-turbo V6 is seriously impressive in a lot of ways — tons of power, smooth towing performance, and honestly one of the strongest half-ton drivetrains I’ve tested.

But there’s one thing on this truck that just isn’t for me… fake engine noise pumped into the cab through the speakers.

In this clip I actually show how Toyota adds artificial sound into the interior to make the engine sound deeper and more aggressive. Some people might like it, but personally, I’d rather hear the real engine — turbos, exhaust, and all.

Curious what you guys think… does fake engine sound bother you, or do you not care at all?

Why The ZF 8-Speed Makes The Ram HD Trucks Worth Buying

One thing I genuinely appreciate about the newer Ram HD trucks — especially my Ram 2500 Power Wagon with the 6.4L HEMI — is the ZF 8-speed transmission.

Honestly, this transmission is one of the biggest strengths of these trucks. The shifting is smooth, responsive, smart under load, and overall it just feels far more refined than what a lot of the competition is offering in the gas HD segment.

But more importantly… I trust it.

When I drive this truck, transmission reliability honestly never even crosses my mind. The ZF 8-speed has proven itself to be an extremely solid product, and in my opinion it’s a major selling point if you’re shopping for a heavy-duty gas truck.

The 6.4L HEMI paired with the ZF 8-speed is just a really well-matched drivetrain.

6.4L HEMI Owners Know This Pain… ⛽😂

If you own a 6.4L HEMI Power Wagon… you already know exactly what I’m talking about. 😅

These trucks are honestly solid. The 6.4 HEMI has proven to be a pretty reliable heavy-duty gas V8, sounds great, makes good power, and gets the job done. But fuel economy? Yeah… not exactly its strong point.

Roughly 11 MPG is about as good as this truck is gonna get driving around normally, and honestly, that’s just part of owning one of these HD gas trucks. If you’re thinking about buying a 6.4 HEMI, just know you’ll probably become close friends with your local gas station. 😂

Reliable? Absolutely. Efficient? Not even a little bit.
