❄️ Here are a few tips worth checking before winter starts:
Before the cold weather arrives, take a few minutes to check these simple things. Catching a small problem early can help prevent a much bigger headache when winter arrives.
🔧 1. Check the bottom brackets for rust
Look at the bottom corners on both sides of the garage door, where the cables connect to the door. Check for any signs of rust or corrosion.
⚖️ 2. Check if the door feels heavy
Only do this when the door is fully closed. Disconnect the opener and carefully lift the door manually. The door should be relatively easy to lift and should feel balanced. If it feels unusually heavy, don’t force it. The spring system may need attention.
🔊 3. Listen for unusual noises
Pay attention while the door goes up and down. Grinding, squeaking, popping, or other unusual noises can be an early sign that something needs attention.
🪢 4. Check the cables for fraying
Look at the cables from top to bottom. If you notice fraying, broken strands, or visible damage, it’s best to stop using the door and have it inspected.
🌀 5. Check the springs
Take a quick look at the garage door springs for visible signs of rust, corrosion, or dryness. Do not touch or attempt to adjust the springs. They are under high tension and should only be serviced by a trained professional.
❤️ A little prevention can go a long way.
Taking a few minutes to check your garage door before winter can help you catch problems early and avoid getting stuck with a garage door issue when it’s -20°C outside.
Stay safe, stay warm, and take care of your garage door before winter arrives. ❄️
