Its Race Day!!!!

First race in a while for us tonight….

Jennifer Grace Kingstone was selected for the north island elite rugby team the Tsunami and decided to focus on committing herself to the team rather than racing. Plus scheduling conflicts would have made it tough to do both well. Big thanks to Leighton Construction for sponsoring her rugby efforts!!!

It will be a busy weekend for her as she has a 10am practice in Naniamo Sunday morning but like she said,
”It’s the crash to pass boat race! We cant miss it!”

I(Dad) finally got a set of new tires for the car so hopefully we dont have anymore tire issues… Note to self, winter tires do not like 100 degree temps!
Running some summer street tires tonight so hopefully we can get pressures dialled in during hot laps and they provide a little more grip so we can hit that 19 second lap time we’ve been chasing!

First race of the season was a huge success!
Due to busy school and work schedules we weren’t able to make any practice nights so hot laps were Jennifer Grace Kingstone’s first laps of the year….
She started off cautiously and worked her way up to qualifying with a 20.546 and just got faster from there!
Finished her heat race in 5th and then started the main event in the pole position and led the pack for 7 laps before running wide in turn one opend the door for a couple cars. She dropped to 3rd and held on there for a bit before dropping to 5th.
She was holding her own in 5th place and on her way to our best finish in a main event ever when disaster struck!
Sending it into turn one at about 85kmh her right front tire blew out and almost sent her into the wall!!! She did a great job of regaining control and kept it off the wall, came in for a nascar style pit stop and got back out while still under yellow! She managed to stay on the lead lap and raced her way back to a 14th place finish!!!

Well its that time of year again! Getting the race car dusted off and ready to run for our season opener next Saturday the 29th!

We have high hopes this year and hopefully we’ll do less crashing and more winning!

Looking forward to seeing all of our fans and racetrack friends after a long winter!

What an awesome night of racing!
We had a full pits with grandma and grandpa, Graces mom and her two younger siblings, Hunter and Olivia.
We missed out on the trophy dash again and had some tough cars in our heat race. Grace ran some clean lines and finished 5th in her heat race.
On to the main event where we started third and managed to jump into the lead for a little bit!
Had some fast cars pass us but they had to work for it and Grace was able to hold off the rest of the pack and managed a 6th place finish!!!

Thats our best performance of the season and moved us up three spots in the championship points! Currently sitting in 11th with a top ten spot well within reach!

Best part of the night? We made the competition transfer into the Hornet A main and ran with the big kids!!!
Grace did great and finished 5th!

Its race day! We spent last practice night working on our 2-3 shift on the back straight. Still getting the hang of it but once she learns how to keep her revs up and dump the clutch we should improve our lap times significantly!
Plan for tonight is to go out and run in second like we usually do…. And most importantly have fun with our family and friends!

July 23rd Main Event!
We had a great start to our night with Grace setting a new personal best lap time of 19.868.
Missed out on the trophy dash and struggled a little in our heat race but still managed to lay down some fast laps.
Started the main in 5th and managed to hold it untill a car infront of us blew a coolant line and layed down some water right infront of us. Not much Grace could and she ended up spinning out while getting tagged a couple times.
Thats racing for ya!

Over all we had a good night and good times with family and friends!

Also got to meet Ashley Creed winner of the Big Rig race! Pretty cool to see a 25 year old woman who got her start in hornet cars running at that level of competition!

Hot laps! We finally broke into the 19 second lap times!!!! Grace missed the first hotlaps session but came out strong in the second session and ran a new personal best lap of 19.8 seconds!!!!

Bug rigs are here tonight and man are they neat!
Big power on a little track!

Looking like a full field of hornet cars out tonight so it should be some good racing!

We made it turn!

Made it to practice Thursday and with a little help from the racing community we made some big improvements! Finally got our new tires mounted on the right size rims( big shout out to Mark at Ok Tire in willow point!)
Definitely made a big difference but the biggest change we made was with our driving style.

It was pointed out to us that grace was over driving the car and if she slowed down a little she would go faster…. She tried it and it worked!

We made it to Saturdays race after both Grace and I worked an event in Port Alberni with minutes to spare.
Qualified 14th out of 20 cars with no practice laps.
Grace got a good start in her heat race and finished 3rd! Thats our best finish yet this year!

She then went out for the 20 lap main event and ran a great race! Added a few dents and managed to pull off an 8th place finish with a new personal best lap time of 20.005!
So close to running the 19 that we’re looking for!

Of course I forgot the Go Pro and the only video I shot was into the sun…. Hopefully Payton Francis has some footage he can share as he finished behind us for once!

June 11th Main event! Still lots of work to do to get the car to turn. It was a frustrating night for us…. We started off tight and pushing up the track. We were able to correct it a little bit with our tire pressures but the car was still slow in the corners which kills our momentum and leaves us struggling to catch up on the straight.
We’ll get our new tires mounted on the propper rims this week( Dads screw up, apparently there’s different four bolt stud patterns) and hopefully that helps.

Lots of racing left in the season so we’ll have a chance to make up for our slow start!

Currently we are sitting in 12th place in the championship, if we can get into the top ten we’ll be pretty happy….
