And this is why we don't "just throw pads on it."
Take a close look at these rust ridges. The customer thought they were saving money by skipping new rotors.
What you are seeing here is the new, flat brake pad bridging across the high spots of the old, grooved rotor. Notice the rusty center section? That is braking surface that is not being used.
Instead of 100% pad-to-rotor contact, this truck now has maybe 30%. This leads to massive overheating at those contact points, pedal pulsation, and, most importantly, significantly longer stopping distances.
Do the job right the first time. Replacing rotors isn't an "upsell"; it's a safety requirement.
