Young Bahamian has his say on the Progress administration blatant behaviour
50 days in, and the Davis administration’s message to Bahamians has been painfully consistent:
“Trust me bey.”
Not “here’s the proof.”
Not “here are the documents.”
Not “judge us by the evidence.”
Just… trust me bey.
Two gaming bosses are appointed as ministers, and when Bahamians ask the obvious question, did they give up their gaming interests? We get a Gaming Board statement two weeks late, signed by nobody, answering a question nobody asked.
Not yes.
Not no.
Just political gymnastics.
But hey, Sebas said he spoke to the regulators at the Gaming Board and they said he straight man so,
Trust me bey.
Michael Halkitis looks the country in the eye and says he was “never a president” and “never employed” by Top Notch Builders, a company tied to tens of millions in public contracts.
Then the Registrar records surface.
And suddenly, the next day, we find out he actually **was** connected to the company.
A director.
2019. 2020. 2021.
Funny how memory improves once the documents show up.
But it gets worse.
Even after admitting that, he still wants Bahamians to believe he had no knowledge of Jonathan Eric Gardiner’s involvement with the company, the same Gardiner whose U.S. court records confirm convictions for conspiracy to import co***ne and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
So let’s get this straight.
You were connected to the company from 2019 to 2021.
That same company was tied to major public contracts.
And years earlier, when you were Minister of State for Finance, the then-president (Gardiner) of that company was awarded a $33 million contract for the Eight Mile Rock administrative complex just before the 2017 election.
But somehow, you knew nothing?
Bey, trust me.
Then there’s $1.5 million in no-bid “vouchers” sent out weeks before an election, some with a PLP candidate’s name printed right on them. The Ministry of Finance allegedly bought vouchers from itself.
But don’t worry.
It’s not to buy votes, it's Dorian relief. (The hurricane from 2019.)
Trust me, bey.
$369 million in no-bid contracts.
A $183 million road contract dismissed as an “administrative error.”
A quarter-million US dollars **per month** for Roger Stone and MAGA influencers to "help make us look good in Washington."
But somehow, Bahamians can't file Freedom of Information requests because it's underfunded.
Because according to the Prime Minister, the Freedom of Information act is too “esoteric” to matter. Essentially saying we the people are too simple to understand something so complex so just,

And then there’s BPL.
In April 2025, we were told by Jobeth Coleby-Davis that BPL had reached an “N-2” contingency position. In plain English: even if two major generation components failed, there would still be enough power to carry the load.
That was supposed to mean no more load shedding.
She told us they were ready.
Then June 2026 came.
The lights went off.
The excuses came on.
Suddenly it was not load shedding.
It was “planned outages.”
It was “growing pains.”
It was the heat.
It was hidden faults.
It was an eight-week delay.
SMT Trust me bey.
And while Bahamians are sweating in the dark, we still do not have full transparency on the Bahamas Grid Company deal.
A 25-year arrangement.
No competitive bidding.
Private investors with 60% control.
The public contributing New Providence’s transmission and distribution assets for a 40% stake.
Investor identities not fully disclosed.
Full agreements still not properly laid bare for the Bahamian people.
Then the foreign management partner connected to the grid upgrade walks away less than two years into the 25-year deal, and the public is told it is a “transition.”
Not a collapse.
Not a failure.
Not a reason to panic.
A transition.
Trust me, bey.
At some point, we Bahamians have to stop treating disrespect like it is normal.
This is a government asking an entire country to accept too much on blind faith while the same people who pay the bills, sit in the heat, fund the contracts, and carry the country are told to stop asking questions.
They do what they want.
They tell us what they want.
And like an abusive lover they come back with gifts like T-shirts, vouchers, and if you're in Fort Charlotte fancy tote bags, to win you back and too many of us, like battered lovers, pretend the disrespect never happened.
That is not leadership.
That is not transparency.
That is gaslighting.
And it only keeps working because we keep allowing it.
