Across the Dalyan River lie the ruins of Kaunos — an ancient city that was once an important Mediterranean port.

Today, visitors can walk among the remains of the theatre, Roman baths, temples and public buildings that once formed the centre of the city.

Over time, sediment carried by the Dalyan River changed the coastline and separated Kaunos from the sea. The former port gradually lost its importance, but the ruins remain as evidence of the city’s long history.
