BMW E38 — preserving one of BMW’s finest luxury sedans in its original form.

In this video, we restore the electronically controlled EDC shock absorbers from the legendary BMW 7 Series E38. The units are completely disassembled, inspected and professionally rebuilt to restore their correct hydraulic and electronic operation.

After the repair, each shock absorber is tested on our professional EMA shock dynamometer to verify its damping performance.

The Mitsubishi Sigma was decades ahead of its time. So was its suspension.

This is one of the most challenging adaptive shock absorbers we’ve ever rebuilt.

The reason isn’t just the integrated air spring. The real challenge is hidden inside: the oil seal and guide are factory-welded into the damper body. There are no replacement parts, and they were never meant to be serviced.

Instead of giving up, we reverse-engineered the original components and manufactured brand-new replacements in-house.

The result? A shock absorber that works again and proves that even 30-year-old technology deserves a second life.

Not every adaptive suspension is modern.

These are Koni ECSA shock absorbers from a 1998 Maserati Quattroporte IV – one of the earliest electronically controlled suspension systems ever fitted to a production car.

More than 25 years later, these dampers are still repairable and can be restored to their original performance instead of being replaced.

Every shock absorber is completely disassembled, inspected, rebuilt with new sealing components, refilled with fresh oil, and tested on our electromagnetic shock dyno before it goes back on the car.
