This is model of Jacky Ickx' Matra MS5 F2 car from the 1967 German GP is a perfect of example of what represents.
For many people, it's not a very special model. It's not extremely detailed either, it's just another decent model from the classic Spark lineup it seems.
In some ways it is, but this model tells a special story. This car was driven by Jacky Ickx at the 1967 German GP. To boost the fields F2 cars were allowed to race with the F1 boys. Jacky baffled everyone by qualifying his Ken Tyrrell entered Matra F2 car in 3rd place, only beaten by the mighty Jim Clark and Denny Hulme in their F1 cars.
The rules stated however that all F2 cars had to start behind the F1s, but undeterred, Jacky stormed back to the front during the race. He got back up to an impressive fifth position until his suspension gave way and he had to retire. It was the day F1 took notice of the young Jacky Ickx and this car and this race were pivotal in the Belgian legend's career.
I've got many models from various brands, but Spark are the only ones to produce models like this one here. It's because they know what that model represents. They know the story behind it, no matter how small or obscure it is and that's what drives them to produce models like these. They share the same passion as their customers, their models tell the stories we all like to live again. Thanks to Spark we can, by enjoying these models every time we look at them!
