1972 Honda CB100 – A 50-Year Time Capsule

This little Honda has a remarkable history.

Bought new from a Honda dealership in Wagga Wagga in 1973, it was purchased by a young man who needed a commuter bike for work.

Not long afterwards, the young man met a young lady – and her parents apparently gave him an ultimatum:

“It’s the bike or the girl... your choice.”

The girl evidently won.

With just over 3,000 km on the clock, the little CB100 was traded at a local car dealership. Rather than being sold, it was pushed to the back of the workshop – where remarkably it would remain stored for the next 50 years.

Eventually offered to its current owner, the Honda was carefully recommissioned and entered in the AMCA Judging Program for the first time in 2025.

The result? An outstanding Junior First Award with 99.5 points out of 100, as well as the award for Most Original Motorcycle.

This remarkable survivor will be at Bulli in 2026, once again entering the AMCA Judging Program – this time hoping to achieve its Senior Award.

A genuine time capsule and a wonderful example of how the AMCA welcomes and celebrates all motorcycles 35 years and older – from humble commuter bikes to the rarest machines in the world.

And as for the young man and the young lady?

We can't say whether their relationship has stood the test of time... but the little CB100 certainly has!

1928 Brough Superior SS100 Alpine Grand Sport

On display at the Bulli Antique Motorcycle Weekend will be this exceptional 1928 Brough Superior SS100 Alpine Grand Sport – one of just 35 built that year and number 28 of the series.

Powered by the legendary 998cc overhead-valve J*P V-twin and fitted with the Bentley & Draper spring frame, the SS100 was one of the fastest and most prestigious motorcycles of its era. Famously, every SS100 was guaranteed by the factory to have exceeded 100 mph before delivery.

Despatched from the Brough Superior works in Nottingham on 8 June 1928, this motorcycle has a remarkable documented history, including more than 70 years in Australia.

Restored by Graeme Carson in 1979, it subsequently achieved an extraordinary 499 points out of 500 and a Gold Award from the Vintage Motorcycle Club of Victoria, before becoming a familiar sight at major Australian vintage rallies.

Its extensive history file includes correspondence dating back to the 1950s, factory and club records, restoration documentation and even handwritten period riding and maintenance instructions.

After later passing through the collections of Franco Trento and Steve Hazelton, it was purchased by its current owner in July 2026. Believed to have travelled only around 3,000 miles since its restoration, it remains a wonderful example of George Brough’s most celebrated creation.

Fast, beautifully engineered and unquestionably deserving of the famous title:

“The Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles.”

While this year’s AMCA Australia Motorcycle Weekend has a major focus on American motorcycles, two very special Japanese machines are also making their way to Bulli.

The legendary 1969 Honda 750 and 1973 Kawasaki Z900 have both been fully restored to an exceptional standard and have previously achieved prestigious AMCA Winners Circle Awards.

This year they’re returning to Bulli in the Preservation Class – a chance to see how these award-winning restorations have stood the test of time.

Two landmark Japanese motorcycles that helped change motorcycling forever.
