A vibrant McLaren Artura spotted in a Hobart CBD carpark recently. As McLaren’s first series-production hybrid, the Artura marks a significant shift for the company as they and their competitors from Ferrari and Lamborghini lean heavily into hybridisation, chasing increased performance while simultaneously adjusting to meet ever tightening emissions targets. Fear not however, as the Artura’s 120-degree 3.0L twin-turbo V6, while small, is still potent. Combined with the axial flux e-motor mounted between it and its 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, it’ll produce 500kW & 720Nm; absurd figures for a car weighing less than 1500kg. Other differences between the Artura and prior McLarens include its use of an electronic differential and a new design of rear suspension. Joyfully, as with other McLarens, hydraulic-steering remains, making the brand one of, if not the only sports car manufacturer to still offer it on new cars. Thanks to for the photo.
