This customer came in for a routine service and mentioned a strange noise coming from the engine bay.

“Sealed for life”… until it isn’t.

This is why we recommend servicing your automatic transmission every 50,000 km.

The photos below show the transmission filter from a customer’s vehicle. Over time, the filter becomes restricted with clutch material and debris, reducing fluid flow and forcing the transmission to work harder.

That can lead to:
✔ Harsh or delayed gear changes
✔ Transmission shudder
✔ Overheating
✔ Premature internal wear
✔ Costly transmission repairs

At Sammies Automotive, we don’t just drain and refill the oil. We remove the pan (where applicable), inspect what’s inside, replace the filter, refill with the correct transmission fluid and make sure your transmission is ready for many more kilometres.

A transmission service is cheap insurance compared to replacing or rebuilding a gearbox.

This is why we DON’T recommend 15-20k km service intervals.

That black sludge you’re looking at came out of an engine that’s been pushed too far between services.

Modern logbooks will tell you 15,000–20,000km intervals… but that’s under perfect conditions.
Real-world Aussie driving? Heat, short trips, stop-start, towing, dust… completely different story.

👉 What actually happens when you stretch it:
• Oil breaks down and loses lubrication
• Heat cooks it into sludge (like this 👆)
• Oil galleries start to restrict
• Turbos, chains, and bearings cop it first
• Engine wear accelerates FAST
