Got bored and decided to do a few more film clips for songs from our Minor Crush LP. (View the first five HERE) I threw together some vignettes of domestic psychodrama for "Epithet" And then I begged our good friend and long-time RC film clip producer/collaborator Matt Clements for a stash of NYC hyper-lapse footage and made a lyric video for the album closer "Fading". 10 years. That's how long Royal Chant has been in existence. I'm not 100% certain of the exact date we played our first show as "Royal Chant", but it was sometime just before Easter in 2009 when we opened up for a band called Benjalu somewhere here in the local(ish) area before heading into Albert studios in Sydney to record our first singles with a proper producer. "Minor Crush", the 6th LP from Royal Chant, has just gone out to the wide world (or as soon as the clock strikes midnight in your time-zone), and to celebrate in our typical underpaid/underwhelming DIY fashion we've put together a Spotify playlist featuring the album + some of our favs. We've got R.E.M., Mitski, Tim Smyth & HolyTrash (twice!), some vintage Ian Hunter, Hot Hot Heat from back in the naughts, Eddie Vedder with nothing but his soaring voice and a ukulele, a banging track from the new Sleater-Kinney, an old-skool shout-out to Mark's hometown of HOTlanta thanks to Kilo Ali, a perfect song thanks to the The Cribs, a personal fav from FETES, some nostalgia via Sickboy, indie rock perfection courtesy of Bland and The Fall, a hidden gem from M.O.T.O., a bit of hometown nepotism thanks to Water And Bridges, and wrapping up with a karaoke standout from Elton John.
