***Did you know?*** I still do callouts for PIN retrieval, remote replacement and programming, remove & bypass. It's true. Remotes/fobs etc are still getting destroyed, lost, stolen, put through the wash, taken for a swim... You're only human, right? Anywho if it's on its last legs call me to organise a spare before it stops working completely. Everything suddenly becomes much more urgent when you can't get there.

Spent a bit of time on a couple of cars in the inner NE suburbs of Perth today. First up was a 2013 Hiace Commuter with a rather tasteful camper conversion done inside - "Frida" scored the robust Cyclops P385 alarm system, as she's been picked on a few times recently. Hopefully the thugs will keep on walkin' now! Then it was onto a hard working D22 Navara. A slightly dated Kenwood head unit came out to make way for a tidy Nakamichi Carplay/Android Auto unit, paired with a butterfly reverse cam. Nice little upgrade. HUGE thanks to Tarnia & Tracy for choosing DriveTek - and to Kelly for having space out of the rain for me to get the job done! 🫡

Today saw Dean's 2021 Prado fitted with the Cyclops P885 canbus alarm. Designed and engineered right here in Perth, the P885 is a very versatile security system. Predominantly working off your OEM remote/fob, this alarm can also accept Cyclops remotes, wireless sensors (toolguard, PIR, reed switch etc), hard wired sensors (glass breakage sensor included), comes standard with battery backup siren and is fully configurable via it's very own smart phone app. I have this very system in my own car too! It's FAQ time!

"Hey Rob. Is the Ghost my only option to guard against key theft, cloning, can injection and relay attacks?" - Hey. No, it sure isn't. The Ghost is an amazing product, but it's not compatible with all cars. I also carry Bluetooth, Wireless PIN pad, and Tracker/Immobilisers. You may even be able to add more than one of those options to your car.

"Do I have to bring the car to you?" - In most cases, I can come to you. Not all, but most.

"Are you available on weekends?" - Usually, yes.

"Would you use any of these systems in your own car?" - Absolutely, and currently do! I've never tried to supply & install something that I wouldn't have in my own car.

"Do you install them properly?" - Okay, wow. Yes. I've got industry experience dating back to the late 1990s. Drivetek is a licensed motor repairers business. I am a certified motor repairer. We are ASIC registered. There's no incentive for me to cut corners.

"I just spoke to another guy who can do it cheaper." - That's great. I set my prices to reflect the over all standards that I adhere to. The other guy might also have different purchasing prices.

"Do you cut keys or do factory/OEM remote key replacements as well?" - unfortunately, no. But I do know someone who's an absolute guru. I'll send you his number.

"My fob is one of those generic ones with two buttons on it - can you make me another one?" - sorry, but I'm gonna need more info on it. If you don't know the make/model of your security system, I certainly won't either. Not without looking. And I need more than "I just told you it's a 1996 Toyota Camry!" Maybe send me a picture of your old/existing "remote/fob/clicker/demobiliser thingy." Please.

Flashback to Aaron's VNSS - and many others! Already 5 years since this tidy Commodore received a new Cyclops security system from what was then Serge's Services. And although they're few & far between now, installations for this era Holden were commonplace when I first learnt this job. VN Execs were coming in for 4dr central locking. The upmarket Calais, Berlina & SS were showing up for a full alarm and remote boot release (a bit flash back then!) Brand new VTs and VXs paired well with the new upgrade alarm system, meaning no additional remotes were needed. Hyundai Excels and Daewoos were everywhere 🙄 ... But seriously, while I do post a lot about modern cars and canbus systems, DriveTek will still happily supply and install security for your legendary 80s or 90s car. Pulsar, Laser, Lancer, 626 E-series Falcon, Magna, Festiva, Silvia, Swift... Bring 'em on! And if you're thinking "why bother with that..?" Just remember - it's each to their own. And I do love a little nostalgia here & there.
