One of the biggest questions fleet operators ask before making the switch to zero-emission vehicles: where do we charge them?

That gap is starting to close. ARENA has committed up to $25.3 million to fund three open-access fast-charging hubs for electric trucks across Melbourne, with plans to expand into a national network covering Sydney, Brisbane, and key freight corridors like the Hume Highway. Separately, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation has backed a $100 million lending program with Metro Finance, offering discounted finance to SMEs (including freight operators) purchasing EVs.

It’s always been about the vehicles and now it's about the ecosystem catching up around them.

At FMD, we see this as a clear sign that fleet electrification in Australia is moving from early-adopter territory into genuine, backed infrastructure.
For fleet operators still weighing up the switch, the charging and finance landscape is shifting fast enough that it's worth another look.

Yesterday, we welcomed a headquarters delegation from Foton Motor, including Mr Lu Zhenghua, General Manager of BAIC Foton Motor, to our Smeaton Grange facility.

During the visit, they met with several of our valued customers, including Australian Renewable Energy Agency, Woolworths, and Transit Systems, showcasing the strength and diversity of the Foton network here in Australia.

While meeting with Transit Systems, Mr Lu presented an award to their top-performing Foton WSI bus driver, Mighty Robin Mariano. Congratulations 🎉

It was an overall great opportunity to walk through our operations and reflect on how far the Foton range has come locally. We're proud of the relationship we've built with Mr Lu and the FOTON team, and excited for what's ahead.

We are so proud to support not only the transition to zero emission but also transport industry education.

We're delighted to have contributed to the University of Sydney Business School's Certificate of Transport Management (CTM) 2026 program, held in July.

We took part as both speaker and panellist during CTM's intensive week-long program, sharing industry insight with transport professionals from across the country. The Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies has recognised the contribution of external industry speakers as one of the driving factors behind the program's continued success and we're honoured to have been part of it.

Thank you to the University of Sydney Business School and the ITLS team for the opportunity to contribute and we are already looking forward to the next one!
