Why is it so hard for drivers to slow down when passing stationary traffic? And why is there stationary traffic at a fresh green light? Why isn't that traffic moving off for the green light? This is what I would ask myself and teach my student drivers as we are approaching such a situation.

You can just see the mobility scooter rider between the stationary traffic (on camera), crossing the road, but it's hard to make judgements watching from dash cam footage!

A little caution would have allowed the driver to potentially avoid this, regardless of the mobility scooter rider doing the wrong thing. This is a risky situation, and when there is risk, deceleration is better than acceleration. Just my two cents as someone who teaches drivers to be proactive, not reactive...

Hi everyone, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for the discussion we had here, whether we agreed or not. It certainly pointed out some flaws in how I portray who I am and what I do. And it certainly made me realise that I let my every day difficulties get the better of me.

I would like to point out, that regardless of my issues with various road users, I have the capacity to drive and teach people to drive with due care and caution, especially around vulnerable road users. My role is to reduce risk and stop serious injury or death on our roads.

I did this because I came across like I was blaming pedestrians for a rise in deaths, shifting responsibility on them and excusing dangerous driver behaviour.

For those that know what I do, that is certainly NOT how I want to come across! And I'm holding myself accountable by NOT removing what I already wrote or said!

The new description is actually a quote from a comment on this Facebook post by All In Vehicle Inspections. What they have said is somewhat what I should have said. Thank you.

I will leave it at that and hope that people will look deeper into what I do and recognise that I'm trying to reduce road trauma through education.

We are out in Warrnambool for the Ryda Road Safety program at Deakin University!

I'm the driver/co-facilitator today for the Speed & Stopping session.

My role is to explain various safety features of a 5 star rated ANCAP vehicle and demonstrate braking distances from various speeds.

Have you ever completed an unexpected ABS emergency braking exercise?

Did you know this type of assessable task is not in the VicRoads drive test criteria in Victoria, Australia?

Due to the lack of this, many drivers will get their solo drivers licence without ever having experienced emergency braking.

At CRUDE Ultimate Driving Education, we run unexpected ABS emergency braking exercises several times with student drivers. Almost every driver does not hit the brakes hard enough the first time!

The point of this exercise is to teach drivers to avoid it - being proactive is better than reactive.

It also educates drivers on Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and stopping distance, demonstrating that if we are not driving to the conditions, we will not stop in time!

Victoria is "The Education State", yet lacks this vital education when it comes to driving. Let's change that! 🙏🏾
