Wipe your dipstick on a white tissue and check the colour. Here's what each one means: Amber or golden - fresh oil, all good. Light to medium brown - normal, still doing its job. Dark brown to black - time for a change. Grey or milky - water has mixed with the oil. This could mean a head gasket problem. Stop driving and get it checked. Gritty texture - metal particles in the oil. Stop driving immediately. Do this check this week. It takes 90 seconds.

A logbook service follows the exact maintenance plan your car's manufacturer set for your make and model.
It usually covers: engine oil and filter (to the right grade), air and cabin filter check, tyre condition and pressure, brake check, all fluid levels (coolant, brake, power steering), belts and hoses, battery, lights, and wipers. Everything gets recorded in your logbook. That record is what protects your warranty - at any licensed workshop, not just the dealer.

Week 3 of Under the Hood is done and this week was all about your tyres.
Not whether they look okay. But what's actually happening where rubber meets road.

EP 05: Your tyre pressure changes everything! Wrong pressure means wrong contact, wrong wear, and wrong stopping distances. The right number is on your door jamb sticker. Use it.

EP 06: Uneven tyre wear isn't a tyre problem, it's a symptom of something deeper like misalignment or worn suspension. Catch it early and it's a simple fix. Ignore it and it becomes a blowout.

The part of your tyre that touches the road changes shape depending on pressure. Under-inflated: the edges carry all the load, wear fast, and build up heat - the main cause of blowouts.
Correct pressure: full, even contact. Best grip, even wear, good fuel economy. Over-inflated: only the centre of the tread touches the road. Stopping distances get longer, the ride gets harsh, and the centre wears out in a stripe. Check your door jamb sticker this week. That's the number to use.
