Last week, during Road Safety Week, a new inattention campaign was launched to remind all Tasmanians to stay focused every time they drive. Little distraction. Big impact.

As major funders of the Road Safety Advisory Council Tasmania we're pleased to see new road safety campaigns up and about!

The most dangerous moments on our roads often don’t feel dangerous – that’s the message behind a new road safety campaign targeting driver inattention, rolling out across Tasmania as part of National Road Safety Week. Launched by the Road Safety Advisory Council, the campaign, Little distracti...

Six Tasmanians are caught every week without a seatbelt. Even more concerning is that one in ten people involved in serious accidents on our roads failed to buckle up.

Wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of death in a crash by 74 percent. It is the most effective way to protect your life and the lives of those in your car.

Buckle up every trip. It is a simple habit that ensures you get home safely.

To launch National Road Safety Week 2026 (17 - 24 May), we gathered in Hudspeth Hall at Hobart City High School yesterday with year 10 students for a road safety pledge signing.

The event included an opportunity to hear real stories and experiences from people whose lives have been impacted by motor vehicle accidents here in Tasmania, including those on the front line.

Thanks to our presenters who joined MAIB Chief Executive Officer Paul Kingston on the stage. Host Louise Houbaer, Tasmania Police Officer in Charge of Road Policing Services Inspector Vanessa Castle and Crash Investigator Senior Constable Kelly Cordwell, Acting Director of the Trauma Service at the Royal Hobart Hospital Dr Jenny Jamieson and Richard Jones from Paraquad Tasmania.

Extra thanks to everyone at Hobart City High School for jumping on board with this important event and making us feel so welcome.

The MAIB Foundation funds essential ATV training to ensure rural students gain the defensive driving skills needed to stay safe on the job.

By providing the formal qualifications farmers require, this investment turns school learning into local employment.

Is your scooter legal? It is a question that could change your life.

With injuries on the rise, it is vital to know the rules. To be legal in Tasmania, your motorised scooter must:

- Weigh no more than 45kg.
- Have a maximum speed of 25km/h.

If you are involved in an accident with a registered motor vehicle, the MAIB is here to cover your medical costs and provide support. However, if your scooter is illegal, you risk losing access to a lifetime of care.

Know the rules. Protect your future.

By funding ATV training through our MAIB Foundation, we ensure rural students gain the defensive driving skills and safety needed to prevent accidents on rural properties.

This investment also directly supports local employment by providing students with the formal qualifications that farmers and rural businesses value, creating a clear pathway from school to a career in agriculture.

We are proud to support the next generation of primary producers as they develop the practical skills to stay safe and succeed in the industry.
