⛵ Schionning Wilderness 1320 Extended – 44ft
📅 2007
💰 $190,000
🌐 Gold Coast, QLD
Built by Nusa Dua Catamarans in Bali in 2007, 'Chamaral' is a professionally built Schionning Wilderness 1320, extended to 44ft, and designed as a lightweight performance cruising catamaran.
Designed by Jeff Schionning, the Wilderness range is well known for combining genuine sailing performance with comfortable cruising accommodation, daggerboards and shallow-draft versatility. At approximately 7 tonnes displacement, Chamaral offers a very different proposition to the heavier production cruising catamarans of a similar size.
Chamaral was purchased by her current owner in late 2022 following many years of cruising with her previous owner, including regular short-handed passages between the Gold Coast and the Whitsundays.
A pre-purchase survey undertaken at the time identified a number of areas requiring attention, including elevated moisture readings within sections of the balsa-cored topsides, deck and forward bridgedeck, together with other age-related maintenance items.
The current owner subsequently undertook exterior works including repair to an area of the forward bridgedeck, exterior preparation and painting, replacement of the crazed side acrylic windows and replacement of through-hull fittings.
Her standing rigging was replaced in 2024 by Everything Marine Australia.
Unfortunately, changes in the owner’s personal and work circumstances meant the planned refit was never completed. Chamaral has remained ashore and largely unattended since 2023 and is now being offered for sale as a genuine project vessel.
While considerable work has been undertaken externally, the interior requires refurbishment following her extended period ashore. She will also require recommissioning of her mechanical, electrical, plumbing and onboard systems, running rigging, antifouling, safety equipment and general maintenance before returning to cruising.
Chamaral is powered by twin 30hp Kubota diesels with saildrives (2014) with Nanni marine components/instrumentation & Nanni engine control panels. Her cruising specification includes a 600Ah lithium house battery bank, Victron 3000W inverter/120A charger, solar charging, AIS, autopilot, chartplotter, electric anchor winch and Harken deck hardware and winches.
Her Ullman sail wardrobe includes mainsail, genoa and Code Zero. The mainsail and running rigging now require attention following the vessel’s extended period ashore.
Accommodation is generous for a performance-oriented catamaran. The spacious saloon offers approximately 1.85m headroom, two large opening forward hatches, navigation station to port and dining to starboard.
The galley is positioned amidships in the starboard hull with approximately 1.96m headroom. Accommodation includes two queen berths plus additional single berths and two bathrooms, providing plenty of space for extended cruising.
Outside, the wide cockpit benefits from the cabin-top extending well aft for excellent protection, with the helm and controls positioned to port. Daggerboards provide the sailing performance and shallow-draft versatility for which the Wilderness design is known.
Chamaral is not being presented as a turnkey vessel. She is an unfinished project offering considerable potential for a buyer who recognises the value of a professionally built, lightweight, daggerboard-equipped Schionning and is prepared to complete the work required.
For the right buyer, she represents an opportunity to acquire a 44ft performance cruising catamaran at a price reflecting her current condition and the refit and recommissioning still required.
Australian duty and GST have previously been paid.
A 2022 pre-purchase survey is available for historical reference. Given the vessel’s extended period ashore and subsequent works, purchasers are strongly encouraged to undertake their own current independent pre-purchase survey.
Chamaral is offered for sale strictly on an “as is, where is” basis in her current condition at Jacobs Well, Queensland. Prospective purchasers should undertake their own inspections and enquiries to satisfy themselves as to the vessel’s condition, equipment, inventory and suitability for their intended use.
Motivated owner. Priced for a timely sale.
