Europe is barely halfway through the year and has already burned through twice its annual average. 1,200 fires, against an average of 569.
Australia's fire season starts when the northern hemisphere's ends. That timing is the problem. Every country replacing its fleet is drawing on the same production lines, the same lead times and the same supply chains, and when everyone orders at once there is only one queue.
Australia cannot borrow its way out of that.
Sovereign capability is not a slogan. It is whether the truck exists when you need it, and whether it can handle this country when it gets here.
