Huon 5-0's most recent crew line-up was Rod (stroke), Annette, Jane and Richard, who got together on Saturday just for the 'Castle to Crane' 5mile or 8.05km race. They had a great row of just over 60mins in the Over 55's Mixed category!

From Jane J: Hi All. There have been emails about the annual Scots "Castle to Crane" skiff 8km race which is being run differently this year due to Covid. Each country has been asked to join in the time trial event...times to be recorded on Saturday September 19. Is Huon five-O keen to join in? It would mean having a few practice runs beforehand, and that can be worked around people as week or weekend "training". Let me know if you are keen and if so, times available. September is just around the corner... Jane

You know how Huon 5-O won equal 'Best Dressed' crew at the Swiftsure regatta ...well the 'trophy' was enjoyed on your behalf ... It was to celebrate the opening of the 2019 summer Franklin swimming season by Jane, Sally, Deb and Jan (he was riding by on his bike before going windsurfing 👀).

Dumfries & Galloway Life Awards 2019
Community Project – finalist

SkiffieWorlds 2019: the World Championship Coastal Rowing and Shoreside Festival was the largest event ever hosted in Stranraer.

The celebration of coastal rowing in July saw 700 crews from 57 clubs from around the world take part, including the USA, Canada, Australia and Tasmania.

The event, brought to the town and delivered by Stranraer Water Sports Association, saw footfall of around 30,000 in Stranraer, with many visitors enjoying the rowing spectacle and action-packed shoreside festival.

One of the special guests was HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.

One nominator said: “SkiffieWorlds was a truly exceptional event. This wasn’t just a sporting event; this was a repositioning of Stranraer for a global audience, led by a community organisation.”

The winner of Dumfries & Galloway’s Life’s Community Project, sponsored by Story Contracting, will be crowned on November 8.

Here is a great piece on our Rowing event just recently in Scotland. I’m the one carrying the Australian flag wondering through the crowds at the 17 second mark and at 1.28 it is our loaned boat with Barb, Claire, Tim, Richard and Toni fighting through the chop!

A great week of World Championship Coastal Rowing in Loch Ryan Stranraer SW Scotland. The Loch perfect stage for water sports. It’s a natural amphitheatre wi...

Hello budding rowers, I’ve attached Sketricks last post at what they need to do to become No 1. Feel the pressure 🤣🤣🤣 🍷🧀🍺🥃

Sketricks: Well done friends and family, just looking at results of skiffie worlds. Look how close our little club with no juniors was Congratulations to Dundrum but if they hadn't beaten us to gold by one second in two races we would have been world champions or possibly if weather had suited us in the last 2 days.
We need to concentrate on our starts which were slow but our turns were brilliant. We need to take up to 30kg of our boats which I have no idea how to do and we need lighter shorter oars for rough water. Plenty of time to make improvements and have fun. Well done guys.

Some interesting articles written on the SkiffieWorlds and a journos photo of us hanging out at the tent. Can you see the clip on Koala’s 🐨 (cap warmers), only photo taken of me being a silly Australian, well someone had to. 🤣

Interesting post by Topher about Ulla skiffs:
'For those interested in the weight of our skiffs, the average weight of the 54 skiffs weighed at Stranraer was 177kg. Cul Mor was 171kg, Ulla was not weighed but will be similar, Coigach Lass was 212kg, the heaviest was 214kg and the lightest 150kg. I don't think we should be chopping bits off the boats quite yet.'
