“Spoiler alert” not an exciting TOP GUN style post. However providing a chase/shepherd is essential when assisting an aircraft in distress. For example lost, no comms, unreliable airspeed, HEFOE etc. Today we practiced with the 2 seat Spitfire MKIX. The formation is flown loosely (tactical) in VMC. With No:2 taking radio lead and lookout. Hence the chase/shepherd is not flown Blue Angels style.

Will in the backseat having a blast…..Here is an example of a high speed military initial and pitch via the overhead procedural arrival. The manoeuvre reduces exposure time, during the approach to land. In combat, military aircraft are particularly vulnerable during takeoff and landing. Thanks again to and

Pilatus PC9A (A23-018) touch & go at Scone Airport (YSCO), runway 11 (20 Jan 2026). Not the most exciting clip, however worth a watch. You will notice it’s quite a flat looking approach with minimal flare, just a “check” to arrest the descent rate on landing. All subsequent takeoffs are done at Max Continuous Power (900shp), not Max Power (950shp). We also use the “inertial separator” at unswept airfields like Scone, due to FOD risk. Thanks again to ………

Sound on 🔊………………. PC9A (A23-018) takeoff. Filmed by back-seater Rob “Kobra”, on an Adventure Flight at Scone (YSCO), on 20 Jan 2026. There was quite a bit of turbulence, so apologies for the bumpy footage, but I thought it was worth posting. You will notice the rear Standby AI is caged, this is my SOP for Adventure flights. Also the Torque appears to slightly exceed the max of 67.4psi. Transients occur at max. And torque variations at max power of +/-0.9 psi, are acceptable. Thank you again for making this all run smoothly and ……………………………………………………………….

A super Adventure Flight passenger (Sarah) enjoying Inverted Flight at Scone Airport (YSCO), on the 20 Jan 2026. Inverted flight is limited to 60 seconds, with fuel supplied via a 21 lbs capacity aerobatic tank. **You will notice the “Off Flag” on the rear Standby AI. For Adventure flights I pop the Standby AI circuit breaker, and I keep the Standby AI caged. As non-pilot passengers cannot be expected to uncage and recage the standby AI during preflight checks and the before shutdown checks.…………………………………..
