Customer Vehicle Spotlight | CV8 Monaro

Nate Gourlay has dropped off his impressive CV8 Monaro at LRE Motorsports for us to diagnose and rectify a clutch issue.

Hopefully, it’s a straightforward fix, and we’ll have Nate back behind the wheel and enjoying the open road again soon.

⚡️ POWER OUTAGE = TIME FOR A TURBO UTE UPDATE! ⚡️

While the power is out in our area, we thought we’d give you guys a bit of an update on the turbo work ute.

The old girl had done 300,000+ km before eventually spinning a bearing. After pulling it apart and finding the cause, we confirmed the main oil feed line to the turbo had split, dumping the oil and unfortunately costing us the engine.

So we grabbed a good second-hand engine and went through it — new rod bearings, new piston rings, opened up the ring gaps for the turbo setup, new oil pump, new lifters and we opened up the combustion chambers to suit a 6.2L head gasket and gave them a 5 angle valve job as well

We’re happy to say she’s back on the road!

Next up, we’re fitting 3.9 diff gears and then a solid-built transmission before we start leaning on it properly.

The goal is to have it ready to make some passes once the new Perth Motorplex racing surface opens.

It’s taken a bit of work to get back here, but we’re getting closer.

Let’s see what this old ute can do! 🏁💨

🏁 LET THE GAMES BEGIN! 🏁

So, how are things looking here at LRE Motorsports?

Well… we got a little carried away the other day and were a bit too heavy on the right foot, and unfortunately managed to spin a bearing in our 300+ km/h turbo LS1 work ute. 🤦‍♂️

So the engine is coming out and will be replaced with another second-hand engine for now, while we get the wounded LS1 onto a stand and start rebuilding it properly. The plan is to freshen it up and eventually put it into our Super Street car, which we’re looking at campaigning this season.

Meanwhile, we’ve also pulled the engine out of the dragster and started stripping that down while we wait for the new crankshaft to arrive. Once that’s sorted, we’ll get the whole rotating assembly sent away to be balanced before putting it all back together.

So yeah, the ute has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works, but you’ve always got to find the positives!

At least everything will be getting a freshen-up and we should have two properly sorted combinations ready to go when the new drag racing season finally kicks off.

Time to get stuck into it.

The first stage of our turbo testing and tuning is underway
