This is NOT your normal Grandpa-spec Mercedes-Benz.

Introducing the legendary Mercedes Benz 190E Evolution II.

Powered by a 2.5L Cosworth 4 cylinder engine, paired with a 5 speed dogleg manual and wrapped in one of the most aggressive aerodynamic body kits ever fitted to a road-going Mercedes.

Unveiled at the 1990 Geneva Motor Show, the Evolution II was built to satisfy Group A DTM regulations. Those iconic flared wheel arches, 17inch alloy wheels and towering adjustable rear wing weren’t just for looks. They were designed to generate serious aerodynamic performance.

Only 502 road going examples were produced, and they were sold out before the car even made its public debut.

With BMW and Audi bringing serious competition to the DTM scene, the Evo II helped lay the foundations for Mercedes-Benz’s dominant era in touring car racing, culminating in the 1992 DTM championship.

CURE TIME
What is actually happening to your coating?

Your coating has been applied.

The car looks glossy.
The surface feels smooth.

But the coating isn’t finished yet.

The coating is still curing.

This is the period where the coating is bonding and hardening onto the prepared surface.

Think of it like paint.

Just because it feels dry doesn’t mean it’s fully cured.

This is why we control the environment inside our studio.

Temperature.
Humidity.
Contamination.

Everything matters.

The better the curing conditions…

The better the coating can perform.

So when we tell you to leave it alone for a few days…

Checking the Paint Condition

Before we touch the paint, we inspect it properly.

We look at the condition of the clear coat, identify swirl marks, scratches, defects, previous polishing and areas that may require more attention.

Every car is different, so the correction process should never be one size fits all.

The first step to a proper correction is understanding exactly what we are working with.



Before Any Work Begins

Our process starts before the machine polisher ever touches the paint.

Once the vehicle is properly cleaned and prepared, we inspect the paint under controlled lighting to see what the naked eye may miss.

This allows us to determine what level of correction is actually required and, more importantly, what is safe to remove.

We do not rush into correction. We inspect first, then we work.



The Tools We Use

Swirl marks do not always show themselves under normal lighting.

That is why we use dedicated paint inspection lighting and our swirl finder to reveal defects, holograms, scratches and inconsistencies across the paintwork.

Different lighting angles can reveal completely different things.

Seeing the paint properly allows us to make better decisions before we start correcting it.



We Do Not Guess Your Paint

Paint correction without inspecting the paint first is simply a guess.

How can you determine the right correction process if you do not know what you are actually dealing with?

At Fine Detailing Co, we inspect the paint, identify the defects and assess what can safely be corrected before choosing the process.

We do not guess your paintwork. We inspect it, understand it and then correct it properly.

Your brand-new car isn’t necessarily brand new when it arrives at our studio.

Before it reaches you, your vehicle has travelled thousands of kilometres, arrived at an Australian port, and often spent time sitting outdoors exposed to dirt, grime, dust, industrial fallout, bird contamination and other environmental contaminants.

That’s why we don’t believe in simply washing a new car and immediately applying a ceramic coating.

The coating is only as good as the surface it is bonded to.

Proper preparation means thoroughly decontaminating the paint, removing embedded contaminants, correcting any imperfections where required and properly preparing the surface before the coating is applied.

Because the real question is:

What exactly are you applying your expensive coating to if the paint hasn’t been properly prepared?
