🚧 Big lift for the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge! 🌉
Recently our team completed the first pier lift - raising the bridge a very precise 8mm (yes, 'just' 8mm but when you're moving a national-icon-sized piece of infrastructure, it is a very big deal!).
Why are we lifting the bridge? Part of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal project includes replacement of the bridge bearings which sit between the bridge deck and the bridge piers. We need to lift the bridge off the piers to remove the existing bearings and get the new ones installed.
We'll next share footage of the bearing replacement process as we progress pier by pier to carefully renew this Canberra landmark and ensure it stays strong and safe for decades to come.
Keep your eyes peeled for updates as we continue lifting, shifting and revitalising one of the capital's most iconic bridges, 8mm at a time!

Landmarks around the state have been lit up as we're reminded that more than 1,350 people lose their lives on Australian roads each year. Almost 40,000 hospitalisations are from road crashes in Australia.
