This classic Defender is in the workshop for a complete engine replacement.

An engine swap is far more than simply lifting one engine out and dropping another in. Rory took on this specalist job this week! It requires careful removal, inspection and transfer of components, correct installation, reconnection of every mechanical and electrical system, fluid replacement, testing including injector testing and final quality checks.

VW REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILURE? YOU DON'T NOT NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE AXLE SHAFT.

On certain Volkswagen models (Amaroks) VW does not supply the rear wheel bearing as a separate genuine component 🤦‍♂️. The manufacturer’s repair method requires replacement of the complete axle shaft assembly which can retail for more than $2,000 before labour and associated parts.

At Long Jetty Mechanical, we have designed a specially made tool that allows our technicians to remove and replace the rear wheel bearing while retaining the original axle shaft, provided the shaft remains serviceable.

This specialist repair can:
🔧 Avoid unnecessary replacement of the complete axle shaft
⚙️ Replace the failed bearing and associated components
✅ Retain the original shaft when it is still in good condition
💰 Potentially save the customer thousands of dollars

🔧 MEET CHARLIE—OUR APPRENTICE AND BIRTHDAY BOY 🎉🔧

Look at that smile - it's where he is at his happiest learning about and working on cars.
Charlie has been part of the Long Jetty Mechanical team for a few months now, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better apprentice.

He is one of the funniest, kindest and most genuine people. He works hard, makes us laugh every day, with his one liners, wit and fast come-backs and he has quickly become such an important part of our team 💓

Charlie will be joining "Team Jaguar Land Rover" and we hope to get him through the JLR excellence program as well as his apprenticeship. With his English background, he’s already right at home! He has even bought his very first Land Rover, ready and waiting for him to pass his driving test soon. 🇬🇧🚙

Tomorrow is also Charlie’s 17th birthday! 🎉

Charlie, we can’t wait to watch you learn, grow and become one of the best mechanics around guided by THE very best (but we are biased).

Don’t worry, Long Jetty Mechanical isn’t going anywhere will continue servicing, maintaining and repairing all the European vehicles we’ve always looked after. Our Land Rover and Jaguar customers will now also be supported through the relevant authorised service centre.

It’s still the same workshop, the same team - we just have two new authorised identities to add to the family. Please bear with us while we try to work across three systems, within one system, across numerous platforms. Confused? So are we at the front desk, but I think we’re slowly working it out 😂

This was not a MINI job! This was a Major repair!
WE DON’T JUST SERVICE CARS—WE DO THIS. 🔧

This MINI arrived at Long Jetty Mechanical with significant engine noise after previously being serviced elsewhere. We posted a while ago about this, and during our inspection, we found the oil filter severely crushed and incorrectly fitted, with the oil filter cap also damaged. This disrupted proper oil flow, and fibrous material from the filter was found in the VVT solenoid gauze.

The resulting oil starvation caused extensive internal engine damage, including suspected bottom-end and crankshaft-bearing damage. Unfortunately, the original engine was beyond economical repair.

The solution? An engine rebuild or a complete engine replacement. One is more labour-intensive than the other - we usually recommend an engine replacement for most cars. In some cases we will rebuild them. Our team sourced a suitable low-kilometre replacement engine, removed the damaged engine and transferred the required components before carefully installing and testing the replacement.

These photos show the scale of the job behind the scenes and our wonderful Graeme doing what he loves! We are so lucky to have the team we have. The customer also called after the engine was replaced (and spark plugs, tensioner, water pump, battery and numerous other components) and said that the car now drives THE BEST IT EVER HAS!

It’s also an important reminder that even something as seemingly simple as fitting an oil filter correctly can be critical to the health of an engine.

At Long Jetty Mechanical, we don’t just complete routine servicing. We diagnose complex faults, carry out major mechanical repairs and complete full engine replacements across a wide range of European vehicles.

From regular maintenance to the jobs other workshops may not take on we have the experience, equipment and capability to get it done.

⚠️ LAND ROVER AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL – D120 & D121 ⚠️

Jaguar Land Rover Australia has issued two safety recall campaigns affecting certain Land Rover Defender, Discovery and Range Rover vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2026.

Due to a manufacturing defect, the connection to the driver’s airbag clock spring may corrode over time. This could prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying correctly in an accident, increasing the risk of injury.

Busselton Land Rover is an Authorised Land Rover Service Centre, and we can complete the D120 and D121 recall work locally and free of charge for affected vehicles.

It's the news you have all been waiting for and also maybe the worst-kept secret. From 1 August 2026, Long Jetty Mechanical will officially become an Authorised Jaguar & Land Rover Service Centre. That's right, authorised and endorsed by Jaguar Land Rover themselves.

What this means for our customers. Long Jetty Mechanical stays, while also trading as Busselton Land Rover and Busselton Jaguar. We will continue to provide the same specialist servicing and repairs for European vehicles that our customers know and trust.

Jaguar and Land Rover owners can now access Authorised Jaguar Land Rover service and support right here in Busselton, without needing to travel to Perth.

Across the South West, from Bunbury to Albany, from 1st August 2026, we will be able to provide:
✔️ Factory Authorised Jaguar & Land Rover servicing
✔️ Manufacturer warranty servicing and repairs
✔️ Roadside assistance and breakdown support coordination across the South West - No more tows to Perth.
