⛔️ WARNING ⛔️ some graphic photos
16th April was the last time this car saw the sun.
Bunbury finished off with a bit of a bang on 15th of April, a hose to the radiator came off, thankfully the panel kit was on and protected bystanders from the spray of boiling hot coolant coming at them. The next day someone wouldn’t be so lucky.
16th - Car was home and out on the driveway to check the damage and see what was happening with the hose, all seemed ok, the car was pushed down the street to make sure nothing came off, once the car was backed onto the driveway it was pushed back into the shed, Gareth sitting on the side nerf bar steering and Zayne pushing it back with the quad, the car rolls into the shed and just as that happens the radiator hose pops off and sprays Gareth’s legs in boiling hot coolant, he jumps off and runs to the tap, Zayne to the hose and water onto Gareth’s legs to aid the burning, sometimes it can take a while for the blisters to start to show, so I ran to our neighbour who is a nurse thankfully to ask her to come over while Gareth was still under the water, she said hospital! We got in the car and off we went, our friend Rhemi came to the hospital and picked up our daughter so she didn’t have to see anything, Thank you Rhemi! You are my lifesaver in so many ways, I cherish you and our friendship!
We waited in the outside emergency for about 20 minutes waiting for Gareth’s RAT test to come up negative, telling them when we arrived that he had been burnt, I asked after 15 minutes if it was negative and got a ‘oh yea, I think it is’ followed with me ‘Great, he’s been burnt and is in agonising pain, can we go in!?’ We were then rushed inside and into a room where Gareth was then placed in the bathroom and sat In the shower for a further 30 minutes.
Our friend Zayne stayed at our house, he put the car back, the quad, he packed away everything outside and locked up, he too is a fricken champ for coming to our rescue! Zayne you’re seriously the best, for all that you have done and all that you continue to do, for checking in with Gareth every day and making him laugh when he had his butt resting on the couch.
Gareth ended up with burns on his legs, which covered almost 10% of his body, after 4 days, 2 visits to Rocko hospital we were sent to Fiona Stanley burn unit where they discovered the burns where worse then they first thought, they wanted him to stay in to minimise the risk of infection and the fact that he may need a skin graft, Gareth requested to please go home where he would be more comfortable, they agreed and he was back at the Fiona 2 days later for a bandage change and check up, from there it was every 2 days at the burns unit for check ups and changes, multiple times they um’d and argh’d about him potentially requiring a skin graft, thankfully he started to heal well and avoided the surgery, but not without being out of the woods completely. Gareth has healed well and now only requires his pressure stocking at night, check ups continue, but he is safe, he is well and he is home!
Thank you so much to everyone who supported Gareth, checked in on him and offered all sorts of help, your generosity, kindness and friendships are worth their weight in gold 💙
