Big milestone reached on this Caterpillar 24M grader rebuild project, with the freshly rebuilt engine now installed and running in the machine.

Our scope on this job was carrying out the complete engine rebuild, so it was great to finally hear it fire into life after all the machining, measuring, assembly and attention to detail that goes into a build of this size.

The machine did have a few electrical faults during commissioning which the electricians worked through, but once sorted the engine ran up nicely and performed exactly as expected.

Always satisfying seeing a major engine overhaul come together successfully.

Onsite today with a long-term customer working on their recently purchased four Volvo A60H dump trucks. These machines were due for some TLC, so they’re getting a full inspection and comprehensive service, including an engine valve adjustment.

They’ll be running like clockwork soon and ready for punishment. 💪🔧

Another Caterpillar C18 engine done and ready to go back into a crusher.

Low hour engine, had already passed a dyno — but the customer wasn’t taking chances. Fair call. Cat remans can be hit and miss, so it got stripped and checked properly.

What it ended up getting:
• Bottom end bearing roll
• New little end bearings to rods
• Liners honed
• New pistons and rings
• Turbo rebuilt
• New injectors
• Radiator serviced

Finished off with a nice spray job.

Back together, running right, and ready to earn its keep.

After being pulled and stripped for paint, this C15 ACERT was prepped and resprayed to bring it back to life.

The engine itself was only dismantled for paint, but while we had it apart, we carried out some preventative maintenance — replacing the turbo cartridges and installing a new water pump.

On initial start-up, everything ran well for about 30 minutes before a pinhole leak developed in the thermostat housing, most likely caused by cavitation.

Another Caterpillar C18 industrial engine completed and ready to go back to work 🔧💪

This is one of three engines we’re currently rebuilding for a valued customer. Interestingly, this particular engine was purchased from Caterpillar as a reman unit only 2,000 hours ago, yet during teardown, we discovered the liners were already well under minimum specification and even fretting on the block—something you definitely don’t expect at such low hours.

On top of that, we found large cracks on the exhaust side of the turbo housing, which was far from ideal. So, this engine has now received a full rebuild from the ground up:
✔️ Brand new injectors
✔️ Brand new cylinder head
✔️ New bearings throughout
✔️ Remanufactured cylinder kits
✔️ Every gasket and O-ring replaced
✔️ Plus, the turbo got a full rebuild as well!

The result? An engine that’s now built properly and ready to deliver serious trouble-free hours back in the field. 🚜🔥

Onsite today in Cedar Vale — yes, it’s Sunday… and yes, we love our customers.

This Mercedes-Benz Atego had severely cracked gear-shift hoses that had started leaking — a failure like this could leave the truck stranded at any time.

We replaced the damaged hoses and carried out a full bleed procedure. It might not involve Mercedes-Benz Group’s fancy dealership equipment, but it hasn’t failed us yet — and it saved the customer at least 50% compared to dealer pricing.

We back our customers any day, anytime.

Onsite today in Pinkenba with a long-term customer. This Kobelco is blowing white smoke, so we’re investigating. The engine has a noticeable misfire while running. We pulled the rocker cover and checked valve clearances — all good. Compression test revealed cylinder three is well below the minimum spec. Looks like this one will need the head off to complete the diagnosis.
