It’s no secret – we love our Maseratis here at Oldtimer Australia!
Did you know these fascinating facts about Maserati?
1) The iconic Maserati badge is a trident, inspired by the statue of Neptune in Bologna, Italy, where the company was founded in 1914.
2) Maserati was founded by three of the Maserati brothers, Alfieri, Ettore, and Ernesto. They were part of a family of six brothers, each contributing their own skills to create one of Italy's most enduring automotive brands.
3) Many Maserati models are named after powerful winds:
• Mistral - a strong Mediterranean wind
• Ghibli - a hot desert wind from North Africa
• Bora - a fierce Adriatic wind
• Merak - a cooling wind that blows across the Mediterranean Sea.
• Khamsin - an Egyptian desert wind
• Shamal - a summer north westerly wind blowing over Mesopotamia and the Persian Gulf.
4) Maserati's racing heritage runs deep. The legendary 250F helped propel Juan Manuel Fangio to the 1957 Formula One World Championship.
5) Throughout its history, Maserati has passed through several notable owners and parent companies: the Maserati Brothers (1914-1937), the Orsi Family (1937-1968), Citroen (1968-1975), Alejandro de Tomaso (1975-1993), Fiat (1993-2021) and Stellantis (2021-present).
From racetracks to grand touring roads, Maserati has always combined performance, elegance and a touch of Italian flair.
