Project Trailer Part 3:
With the heaviest rust dealt with it was time to flip it over and check out the underside. Not as bad as the tray it still needed attention. There was also a surprise regarding one of the suspension guides….

Project Trailer Part 2:
I started removing the worst of the rust with a combination of old chisels, several wire wheels, angle grinder with cutting discs and the trusty recipro saw. With that done I could see the trailer was structurally sound and it was now worthwhile to resurrect it.

Project Trailer: Part 1 -
Last month I got the rego paperwork for my box trailer which brought it to the front of my mind. I hadn’t looked at it in ages and when I did I was a little surprised how much I had neglected it. I considered just throwing it away due to what looked like terminal rust throughout it.
But I started knocking off the worst rust to see what was left….

Pat 9 (Dash part 2):
Once the wipers were sorted I could return to the dashboard, wire it up and install it. Sounds simple. Not quite that straightforward. The wiring itself was bigger than I expected and there’s always those little extra things to do….

Part 8: Wiper motor.
Originally I thought the misgivings of the wipers was solely due to a faulty switch- there was only 2 on positions (slow and fast) and to stop them you had to wait for their cycle and hang the switch between 1 & 2 to stop powering them and land them home. Not an easy task while driving! I was glad to correct this with a new switch only to learn that the switch itself was only half the problem.

Part 7) Dashboard (part 1!). One of those jobs I misjudged. The two main reasons why I wanted to change the dashboard - the need to move the gauges into a position where they would be visible whilst driving (fairly important, I would think) and with lifting the steering column more room was needed above the column and I took the opportunity to make some extra clearance for my knees!

Part 6) The steering column was always one of those things that I wanted to sort out. It looked like it had been painted as an afterthought, the lower dress tube flopped around as it was broken and it was set low in the dashboard making it feel like I was steering from my thighs.
This was my opportunity to make these few things right!

Part 5) With the fuse box no longer in the engine bay on the firewall there was now a hole that needed filling.
It was my first try at a fibreglass bodied car but was very happy with the result and when it came to the colour I ran into a little bit of good luck!

Part 4(?) Fuse Box - initially I wanted to mount the new fuse box in the passenger’s footwell to help clean up the engine bay and make the most of the wiring loom that came with it. Then the thought came to me that 1) I was unnecessarily complicating the job, 2) If I needed to access a fuse it’s going to be at a less than desirable time (rain, night) and I would be in a bad mood and swearing at myself for ever coming up with such a stupid idea for the sake of looks and 3) have always said the Cobra’s engine bay is NOT a show engine bay so why am I chasing this vanity….
But fate had other ideas….

Part 3: Stripping out parts to be sure of what was needed and what was needing replacing! It led me into the steering column and windscreen wiper motor.
The steering column was in need of attention as the lower half of the column flopped around, obviously broken and looked like it had been painted as an afterthought.

Part 2; continuing the strip out and circuit identification. I had the time to do a proper job (I hope) so I wanted to be sure where each wire went and to be sure what parts of the loom I was going to keep was in reasonable condition to keep using. There were parts of the wiring that was modified from the original Torana loom, sections that were modified to marry up with aftermarket instruments and a cluster of “idiot lights” from what looked like a Triumph.
