I’ve been working on this beautiful 1963 3.8ltr E Type Roadster for some time, having recently returned to me from the trimmer (Allan Smith Trimming)
Today it has been relocated to the owners warehouse where I will complete the car by refitting the engine & gearbox and then the final fit out of the interior trim and exhaust etc etc.
This car has been upgraded with the more effective later model E Type Ser.2 pedal box / booster & master brake setup.
Additionally the old starter motor has been replaced with a modern reduction drive starter motor and a Ser.1 Alternator replacing the ineffectual generator.
So the car will stop safely, charge efficiently and will have the fun that the 3.8 Engine delivers!!

Work continues with the D Type’s body with Adrian (the painter) continuing to apply and block off the primer until he’s satisfied it’s ready for colour.
His attention to detail and dedication in getting the paintwork done meticulously is outstanding!
The picture of the car with the door removed is because we’re doing door gaps next, ensuring that all the gaps are all uniformly at 4mm.

Just a quick update on the painting of my car, everything is now in primer ready for colour.
The Stone guard coating will be applied next to the wheel wells and then everything will sit for a few weeks.

With the all the panels now in grey primer ready for the Flag Blue paint to complete the job, attention is has now turned to preparing the inside of the rear body clip.
The interior surface will be as carefully prepared as the outside!
The only difference is the interior will be in satin silver, making the internal aluminium structure impervious to moisture attack.
Being painted will make keeping it looking it’s best a much easier proposition.
The rear body pivots open just like the bonnet so accessibility will be much easier when doing maintenance or cleaning.
The next step will be to apply a generous layer of Stone Guard to the wet areas and after allowing time to fully cure will also be completed in satin silver.

I’ve now completed the passenger seat modification, which entailed making a box to accommodate the jack and associated tools.
And removing 80mm of the seat cushion height so it’s still the original height prior to this modification.
So now it’s carrying the breakdown tools required to change a wheel but doesn’t look like anything has changed!

With both the front and rear body panels now in primer ready for the final block down and then the colour applied. The bonnet has now been turned over and work is underway to prepare the surface for the Satin Aluminium paint that will be applied to the underside of the bonnet.
It will also have the 4 inner wheel wells coated in a heavy application of Shultz rubber coating and then these areas will also be painted in Satin Silver.

Spent the Easter break making this tool box to house the newly acquired Jack and other break down tools that fits under the passenger seat.
The passenger seat cushion has had to be reduced in depth as the box is 80mm deep.
So I’ve removed 80mm of the cushion (using a wood saw!) so that it remains the same as it was prior to the tool boxes fitment.
